Auma was born in Lira in Northern Uganda. She came in 2012 to Kampala to look for her work. Auma is 24 years old now and joined 22STARS in May 2015. Auma has 1 child and takes care of her younger sister. She has to do this all alone, since her husband ran away and she is an orphan. Her parents died from HIV/Aids when she was 18 years old. She has still some relatives and friends in Lira, but she also made new friends in the Acholi Quarter. Her main language is Lungi, but she also knows some English. Almost her whole village, Alebtong, was killed during a Massacre from the LRA led by Joseph Kony. Auma used to work for two years in the stone quarry in the Acholi Quarters. Now she makes beads which she loves much more. She is also taking care of her younger sister of 13 who is also an orphan. Her sister is not going to school, because their is no money for school fees. Auma’s husband once came back and stole her money and beads. She was in a factory at that moment, but people saw him getting in and out of her house. Although Auma grow up in extreme poverty she is a healthy young woman. And she is happy that thanks to 22STARS she can see a future again for herself, her sister and her child.
