Aketo Rose was born on 15th January 1964 in Gulu Godown and she has been living in the Acholi quarter for about 30 years. She is a widow, as her husband was killed by the LRA and she managed to escape to Kampala and survived. She has also lost two children.
She is now supporting her 2 remaining children and five granchildren.
Besides making jewelry she sells charcoal in the local market, and she is now able to provide for her children and grandchildren with food and the house rent.
Rose’s inspirational quote: “Losing two of my kids and taking care of my grandchildren is really hard. But it was even worse not having money to buy food for them nor to have the chance to give them a better future. But I never gave up and even now that I have some income I really want to have my own house and be able to give my grandchildren a better future.”
