Alum Kevin

Posted on by Stella Airoldi

Alum was born in Kitgum, in Northern Uganda. Because of the war she had to flee to Kampala. She worked first as a housemaid, then she worked for years in the stone quarry in the Acholi Quarter and now in October 2014 she started making beads for 22STARS. Alum can speak only Acholi and she cannot read or write. Alum is HIV positive, she goes to the Buyere Reach out for counselling and medicine. Her biggest challenge is that she has many kids to take care of. She is extremely happy that we are paying the school fees of some of the children. Not only her own kids, but she also needs to take care of her grandchildren and kids of her siblings who are orphans. Alum has 11 kids at her house and she has no money for school fees and also struggles to bring food on the table. She is extremely happy that we are paying the school fees of some of the children and that we took her into the 22STARS program. She says that in her position it is almost impossible to find a job. And because of her bad health conditions working in the stone quarry was to hard for her. Alum is very thankful that we help her in seeing a future again.
