Beatrice is a very strong, 46 year old mother of four children with two grandsons who joined 22STARS in October 2012. She believes that in believing in God life will be okay and never loses her faith. Like many other women from the Acholi quarter she was displaced by the war in Northern Uganda. The conflict and post conflict situation made her living circumstances very hard, but Beatrice says she has to push on and will never give up on life. Beatrice is a widow, is HIV positive and has a goitre, which makes her neck swell up and painful. In March 2015 she finally got operated on her goitre. She could hardly see anymore as the goitre was pushing her eyes out. She has to pay around 150.000UGX (appr. 50 euro) a month for a double room for her family, which exists of 7 people. Also money for food for seven people is quite expensive, so that is her biggest struggle. Beatrice appreciates what 22STARS has done so far for her and she is very happy that she can sell her jewellery on the international market and that we pay the school fees of her children.
