Kids playing around the stone quarry in the Acholi Quarter
This is the Acholi Quarter in Kampala in Uganda where my designers live. It is located around a stone quarry. My designers used to work here for a dollar a day when they were lucky. Digging up stones and then making small pieces out of them. Super hard and awful work. As you can see in the short video also a lot of kids play around the stone quarry. You don’t want to know how many kids fall in there and die. With 22stars I am helping them to find alternative work and get a better future. Right now we are looking for a larger market for our products, because we are still struggling to send all of their kids to school. But we are moving forward a lot, so thanks to everyone who has supported us so far!
My biggest dream is to send all kids to school in the near future.
Here a little sum up to give you a figure about how much money (in USD) is needed to send a kid to school in Uganda:
$25 – personal supplies, including soap, toilet paper, sanitary pads, laundry detergent, and the like
$50 – a school uniform, physical education uniform, and school supplies
$100 – school books for eight girls
$200 – a mattress, set of sheets, a blanket, and a trunk for two girls at boarding school
$350 – a year of elementary school
$650 – a year of high school
$1,500 – a year of vocational school
$3,000 – a year in college, including room and board
With every purchase you make on www.22stars.com you make an impact on the lives of my designers and their kids! If you would like to get involved in another way, please let me know and send me a private message or leave a comment.
Greets,
Stella
